Recentering in Japan pt.1
After all of the years of talking about it, I was able to make my way to Japan. This trip came about the way most of my international travels have come about, through the band. We worked with our connections to secure 8 shows over the course of two weeks. Flying into Tokyo, taking 3 days off to adjust and rehearse. Our record label was able to rush our new record in time for the tour. It was amazing to see them in person after working so hard and producing every stage of it under unreasonably tight deadlines. From the moment we arrived our one-man miracle named Ryota was not only our driver, but also our manager who booked the whole tour including bands for every show, lodging, transportation, equipment backline, merch production, and most importantly, spiritual guidance.
The first few days were shockingly easy to adjust to, but we owe it all to Ryota, who was the best host we could ask for. Travelling to Japan with a local the first time you go is incredibly valuable, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity. The Japanese countryside was everything I imagined and more. The hazy mountains and bamboo forests were so stimulating and comforting at the same time. There’s a peaefulness to it that I can’t even describe. But I definitely remember how it feels. We travelled down the coast to start our gigging. After spending 3 days eating, drinking, and enjoying being tourists for a bit, it was our turn to get to work.
Stay tuned for part II…
